Film making is long, hard and arduous. Hopefully these 3 elements can easily be spotted as I show you how I made the endorsements for the film 'Being Harry'.

The finished trailer
Here is the finished product of my journey into the workings of the film industry. Arguably the trailer is the most important part of advertising the film. When I set out to make this trailer I didn't want to create the conventional story telling style of trailer. In some respects I personally feel this ruins the film when an audience eventually goes to see it. Essentially I wanted to just wet the appetite of the potential viewers. I thought if I gave them something interesting to watch that they engage with then they will have a higher inclination to go eventually see the film.

One of the movie posters

This is one of the movie posters for my film. It's a landscape format rather than a portrait one. It shows one of the other principle characters of the movie, Rathe, and introducing him with a quote that is sutible for his character. Originally this was supposed to be one of two posters that i would of used in the promotion of my film. However as I ran out of time this became improbable and eventually impossible. The idea was that there would be two posters - one for each of the characters in the film. This is for the character Rathe. The other would have been for the main character Harry in much the same style.

New film: Being Harry
So we've come to yet another idea change. It's all part of the film refining process and it's definitely not ideal but it is definitely possible to do. The new idea will be a mockumentary called Being Harry. I have previously highlighted an interest in exploring the way young people are shown in film and television in productions such as Skins, Kidulthood, Bullet Boy and the Inbetweeners. However now after close analysis of these and other texts I want to bring the concepts together and ultimately mock how film makers seem to exaggerate and exploit the pros and cons of being a young person. The film will follow a 17 year old called Harry. He's not neccessarily the most popular boy in his school but that's not to say he's a significantly dislikeable character. This is the concept that went behind the characters in The Inbetweeners. 4 boys who had no noticeable talent academically or sporting.
The Inbetweeners
The inbetweeners is a British made sitcom that begun on E4 in 2008. Even though it is not a film it's huge popularity among both younger and older audiences cannot be ignored when trying to gain inspiration for a story about teenage angst. It has lasted three series and has a film scheduled to be released in the summer of 2011. It follows the story of an older teenager called Will as he is taken out of the private education system he is accustomed to and placed in a state run sixth form centre. He meets three friends who are socially awkward, one being in love with a girl who isn't interested, one who has very little respect for women and talks mainly of their genitals and the third being some what of a simpleton. An audiences is treated to comical situations these boys get themselves into because of the way they struggle socially.

Idea change
Once again I have had a complete overhaul in my ideas. This has come about due to concerns about simplicity of filming, simplicity of gaining the correct acting talent something as emotionally demanding as a film like Joe would require and most importantly the simplicity of creating a piece of film that fits in with my calibre of skills as a film maker. This is the details of my new idea:
As a teenager I feel I understand the teenage market better than a middle aged market. Therefore it would make perfect sense to make a film that teenagers will engage with, understand and enjoy. The market is filled with hard hitting heavy going films when it comes to youth with titles such as This is England, Kidulthood, Quadrophenia, A Clockwork Orange, London to Brighton. They all have an agenda to make growing up seem gritty and difficult. They all have protaganists with struggles at home and socially and who will constantly place themselves at risk for the sake of an anarchic dream. It just doesn't seem real any more. The market for coming of age light hearted youths has been re-energised recently with the birth and success of the E4 comedy series The Inbetweeners.
